Opportunities in Life science Global Partnership summit 2006 is spread over 2 days and is split into four modules with comprehensive topics included under each module. These modules are also aptly interspersed with topics on emerging technologies, private equity in the pharmaceutical industry, etc.

The first module will address Business Strategies in Outsourcing for the Indian companies beginning with an International company's perspective on the opportunities that lie ahead for Indian companies in the area of Contract Research and Manufacturing Services (CRAMS), from the point of view of a customer. Following which, there will be a detailed discussion on the industry imperative on drug discovery outsourcing. The latter part of the module will have an interesting presentation on the scope for newer alliances and synergies in the field of bio-specialties and biopharma. The module will end with 2 topics that have generated great interest, both from domestic and international companies alike - the first topic being "Finding Innovation in Unlikely Places - How to Secure Value in the New Indian Patent Reality", and the second one titled "Private Equity in Indian Pharma/Biotech - An Investor's Perspective".

Module 2, is completely interactive and consists of 2 focused panel discussions, whose members are stalwarts from the domestic and global lifesciences industry. The first panel, titled "IP, Reliability, Reproducibility, Control or lack thereof - Are these continuing areas of concerns for Alliances with India?" will have the panel members sharing their views on the issues and challenges faced by International and Indian companies when they get into outsourcing contracts. The second panel, on the other hand, will focus on the buzzwords of the Indian lifesciences industry today - "acquisitions and alliances". Titled "Acquisitions versus Licensing versus Alliances - What works best under different scenarios?" this panel has members debating on the merits of each under different scenarios with interesting inputs from private equity and investor firms.

The second day of the event, that is, May 23rd 2006, will start with Module 3, which will talk about Achieving successful and sustainable Cross - border Partnerships in Growing Markets. In addition to the increased collaboration between Indian lifescience companies and those in the US and Europe, this module will specifically address the potential for collaboration with Japan and Latin America, with speakers from leading companies in these respective regions. This will be then followed by a presentation by AstraZeneca, wherein a comparison will be made on the challenges in outsourcing to India and China. The last 2 topics of this module are titled "Outsourcing of Chemistry services - Success and Future Direction", and "Outsourcing Technologies of the Future".

The final module of the summit will be a comprehensive and focused case study-cum-workshop on the biologics and the biopharmaceutical contract manufacturing industry. The case study model is designed in such a way that the participants are sent preparatory material a week before the event. This workshop will help the delegates from different companies share their knowledge, perspectives and thoughts on this fast growing segment in India. By working in groups, strategizing and giving a final presentation on each group's course of action, this workshop will help address some of the core issues of biopharmaceutical CMO's, and at the same time focus on knowledge sharing and team work skills. The workshop will be facilitated by Mr. Ed Robinson, Director, The Bio Affinity Company, and Advisory Board Member, Fleming Family and Partners.
